What is IMSA Fusion?

Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy (IMSA) Fusion is an after-school enrichment program for Illinois late elementary and middle school students who are talented, interested and motivated in mathematics and science. The program goals of IMSA Fusion include increasing students’ interest, involvement, and literacy in science and mathematics.

IMSA Fusion began in the 2000-2001 academic year with seven pilot sites for 6th – 8th grade students throughout the state. Additional schools have applied and been invited to participate in the program each year since then. Each middle level school site serves up to 30 students.

In acknowledgement that interest in mathematics and science should be nurtured from an early age, the program expanded to include 4th and 5th grade students in 2007. The late elementary school sites serve up to 20 students. Additional information about IMSA Fusion may be found at imsa.edu/extentionprograms/fusion.

The internationally recognized Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy® (IMSA) develops creative, ethical leaders in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. As a teaching and learning laboratory created by the State of Illinois, IMSA enrolls academically talented Illinois students (grades 10-12) in its advanced, residential college preparatory program. It also serves thousands of educators and students in Illinois and beyond through innovative instructional programs that foster imagination and inquiry. (www.imsa.edu).
